The Center for Community Learning is the undergradute curricular arm of the “UCLA in LA” Initiative. We engage UCLA undergraduates, faculty and community partners in academic, credit bearing courses that integrate teaching and research.
Service-Learning Courses
Every quarter there are a variety of service-learning classes offered through academic departments. Students typically work 3-4 hours per week in an off-campus setting, related to the curriculum. There are opportunities for direct service and research projects.
Internships
Juniors and seniors may enroll in a 195 internship course, and work 8-10 hours per week in an off-campus compnay or organization. Weekly journals and a final paper are required.
AmeriCorps
The Center enrolls undergraduates in several AmeriCorps programs, which provide an educational award. After completing 300 hours of service, students earn a $1,000 “service scholarship”.
Civic Engagement Minor
Students can apply for the minor at the Center and choose to be civically engaged at the local, state or national level.
