GRADUATION
www.commencement.ucla.edu
The above website includes valuable resources about graduating, commencement, and more.
The online Schedule of Classes contains a section entitled “Academic Policies” which applies to all undergraduate majors and outlines deadlines, policies, and procedures related to graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
Grad Pak from the Alumni Association explains everything a senior wants to know about graduation, including how to order graduation announcements (Campus Photo Studio, Graduation Etc., A-Level Ackerman Union), how to obtain senior portraits (Campus Photo Studio), where to buy a class ring (UCLA Store), how and where to buy or rent a cap and gown (Graduation Etc.), and information about other senior class activities. Call the Alumni Association at (310) 825-ALUM (2586) for the brochure and further information.

Commencement exercises honoring Fall and Winter Quarter graduates and Spring Quarter and Summer Sessions candidates for undergraduate and graduate degrees are held in mid-June. Each school and college conducts its own academic ceremony for graduates. Check with your school or college for eligibility requirements and program and time schedules.
Diplomas are available approximately three to four months after graduation. Information about obtaining a diploma in person (no fee) or by mail (with fee) is sent to a student's mailing address approximately seven weeks after the end of your final term. Diploma hotline: (310) 825-8883
College (Letters & Science) students may request an official review of the status of your degree requirements anytime prior to graduation, in addition to a computer-generated Degree Progress Report (DPR). Copies of the DPR may be ordered at the College Counseling Offices (A316 Murphy Hall, A311 Murphy Hall, 1204 Campbell Hall) or printed through URSA OnLine.
For students in the School of the Arts and Architecture, Degree Progress Reports (DPRs) are available on URSA OnLine and on request from the Student Services Office, 11000 Kinross Bldg, Suite 194. Questions regarding your degree requirements require an appointment with an advisor in that office. Questions regarding major requirements should be referred to the departmental counselor.
Students in the School of Theater, Film, and Television, will receive a written degree check after achieving junior standing. Students may initiate or request an updated degree check by making an appointment with their departmental counselor in the Student Services Office, 103 East Melnitz Building.
Students in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science must update their Academic Program Proposal (APP) and schedule a degree check appointment the term before their expected degree term in 6426 Boelter Hall.
Students must declare candidacy through URSA by the completion of 160 units (172 for the HSSEAS) or a late candidacy fee will be charged to the BAR account. The identified term must fall within the academic year (four quarters) subsequent to the term in which you reach or expect to reach the 160/172 unit mark. Exceptions can be made by the student's degree auditor depending on the program of study (for example, double majors). Once a student has completed 160/172 or more units, a fee will be assessed each time you change your “degree expected term” through URSA.
Consult the academic calendar in the online Schedule of Classes for the deadline to declare candidacy for the current term. Declaration of candidacy after the published deadline may result in a degree award date for the following term and additional candidacy penalty fees.
Students who intend to complete degree requirements as a non-registered student (take a course through UCLA Extension or at another institution, remove an Incomplete grade, etc.), must file a request to graduate “in absentia” with the degree auditor in 1113 Murphy by the current-term candidacy deadline. Students graduating “in absentia” are assessed the undergraduate "in abstentia" degree service fee.
The “degree expected term” can be checked at any time using URSA. If any questions remain about degree candidacy status, inquire as follows: the College (Letters and Science) at 1113 Murphy Hall; Arts and Architecture/ Theater, Film, and Television/Engineering/ Nursing at your respective school office. A photo I.D. is required for this service. Declaring candidacy is NOT a guarantee of graduation. Current-term candidates are not assigned enrollment appointments for the following term. Students who are a current-term or past-term candidate over the unit limit, must declare candidacy in person at 1113 Murphy Hall.
FINAL STUDENT RECORD
Student records are closed to revisions in enrollment, grading, and academic actions upon award of a degree. Students are responsible for requesting review of their record prior to award of their degree. See UCLA Procedure 220.1 Student Grieveances Regarding Challenge to Content of Student Records Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, which may be found at www.adminvc.ucla.edu/appm.
Changes requested by an individual after award of a degree are considered by the College or School only under extraordinary circumstances. Supportive documentation is required. Upon action of the academic dean, a statement of the request for revision and a note of the change will be recorded only in the memoranda section of the transcript.
