THE SESSION SCHEDULE
Family Orientation is a one-day session designed to meet the basic concerns of family members who are new to the UCLA community. The program will focus on answering your questions about the University and discussing your role as a support for the new university student.
The day will include: an Opening Address, a presentation on UCLA‘s academic degree requirements, an information fair and workshops, an introduction to the services and educational opportunities available at UCLA, a discussion on student transitional experiences, lectures and discussions with University staff and faculty, and a campus tour and tour of a residence hall facility.
The activities will be led by student counselors.
The Family Orientation session activities are held separately of the student session and coincide with the last day of the three-day first-year session. Family Orientation begins at 7:30am and will end approximately at 5:30 pm (the same time your student will be ending their respective orientation session).
If you need assistance while attending an Orientation session due to a permanent or temporary disability, we will make every effort to accommodate you. If you would prefer an interpreter, we will have fluent speakers of Spanish, French, Korean, and Vietnamese available. Please specify your needs in the appropriate section on the reservation form.
Orientation Policy
Although it is our hope that all Orientation students take advantage of everything offered at their session, we are not responsible if students fail to attend or participate in any part of their session. If a student does not participate in all the events offered at Orientation, s/he may jeopardize proper academic advising and course enrollment.
Right to Privacy
In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the Orientation Program protects the confidentiality of any student (age 18 or over) records. Access to a student’s Orientation records - including all financial records - will be given to that student only, unless the student has given consent. For more information visit www.ed.gov/offices/OM/fpco/ferpa.

Your student is required to complete AlcoholEdu for College before arriving on campus in order to help them make well-informed decisions as they transition to UCLA. We encourage you to take AlcoholEdu as well (available between June 15 and September 18, 2009) and talk with your student about what they have learned and how they will use this information in the future. Instructions for logging on to AlcoholEdu will appear on the website at www.alcoholedu.ucla.edu on June 30th. For questions or comments about this program, contact info@alcoholedu.ucla.edu.
